Compared to any calligraphy books that I’ve read, this book is more akin to a magazine. With lots of pictures and light text reading, this is a book that will inspire you to get creative with calligraphy.
I think it’s pretty clear from the cover that this book teaches you how to create ‘modern’ calligraphy, as in, the one that’s been popular of late. Like most calligraphy books, you could pick up this book and learn how to hold a pen and what supplies you need.
Content wise, the book is literally half a how to and half DIY projects. You’ll barely find ductuses and rules in here – mostly it just says go with your judgment and practice. There are several pages dedicated to a handful of variation of each letter though.
The DIY projects, 20 in total, are all very usable and doable. As I said, it’s so much fun just to flip through this book while sitting on a chaise with sweet ice tea – just like a magazine.
